Why my blog is titled Crossing A River......

This is an actual picture of the Jordan river that I found on Google images. Pretty sweet!

God led Joshua and Isreal to cross a flowing river (Jordan) to get to their Promise Land. The day before they crossed the river they had a day of santifying themselves for the wonders that God would do the next day. Then the moment come of crossing the river....a moment which in my eyes would seem impossible.....God made the river dry up. Everyone passed through on dry river ground (NOT EVEN THROUGH MUD)!!

As I read this story again and again, I am comforted by a few things:

  • As Joshua takes a step of faith, God encourages him all the way.God always wants to encourage and help along our faith, but we may have our ears closed to His encouragement.

  • Joshua’s general outlook that he communicated to the people is refreshing. The impossible problems in their way are not seen as an oppressive trial, but as a glorious opportunity to see God work.

  • The Ark of the Covenant of the Lord is so key in this passage. It is referred to 14 times. It was the first to pass through the river. This was all about the trust of Joshua, the priests, and Israel had in God and that He was present with them

Each new season of life brings me back to this story. The book of Joshua in the Bible has many encouraging words, but this story continues to speak the most in my life. NDE (my husband) and I find our comfort level, perspective, and faith being stetched more and more with each new "river" God brings in our path. My prayer is the we will dwell in the sweetness of trusting him as we cross our rivers in life.
